NotebookLM Adds Video Overviews & Slide Revisions

NotebookLM is no longer just about taking notes; it's about transforming information into media. Google announced a sweeping set of updates that turn your static sources into immersive videos, interactive quizzes, and professional slide decks.

Whether you're a student preparing for finals or a researcher presenting a complex theory, these new tools make your data more accessible and visually stunning.

1. Cinematic Video Overviews: The Deep Dive

The headline feature is the debut of Cinematic Video Overviews. Moving beyond simple audio summaries, this tool creates immersive videos with fluid animations and rich visuals based on your uploaded sources.

• Smart Storytelling: Gemini models make hundreds of stylistic decisions to best visualize your complex narratives or academic research.
• Engagement: These videos are designed to help you "see" the story within your data, making it ideal for visual learners.

2. Creative Visual Tools: Slides & Infographics

NotebookLM is becoming a powerful design partner for presentation-heavy workflows:

• Slide Revisions: You can now give stylistic or factual feedback on specific slides. Gemini will then regenerate the deck in the Studio panel to reflect your changes.
• PPTX Export: In a major win for Microsoft Office users, you can now export your generated slide decks as PPTX files (in addition to PDF).
• Ten New Infographic Styles: Want your data to look like a Sketch Note,Anime, or Clay? You can now manually choose from 10 predefined styles to customize your visual summaries.

3. Interactive Study Tools: Smarter Quizzes. For students, the flashcard and quiz features have received a much-needed memory boost:

• Persistent Progress: Your progress is now saved across sessions. You can close the app and pick up your quiz exactly where you left off.
• Shuffle & Rerun: You can now shuffle the deck or use the new results screen to rerun only the cards you Missed, ensuring you focus on the gaps in your knowledge.

4. Expanded Source Support & Persistent Chat

NotebookLM is growing its capacity for long-form research:

• EPUB Support: You can now upload EPUB files (the standard eBook format), making it easy to interact with digital books and large literature reviews.
• Conversation History: To support long-term projects, your chat history is now automatically saved and kept private. You can resume a deep-dive conversation days later without losing context.
• Artifact Creation in Chat: You can now ask Gemini to turn your chat conversation into an Audio Overview, Video Overview, or tailored report instantly without leaving the chat window.

Availability & Access

• General Features: EPUB support, PPTX export, and improved flashcards are available to all users.
• Age Restricted: Slide revisions, Cinematic Video Overviews, and new infographic styles are restricted to users over the age of 18.
• Cinematic Video Overviews (English only): Available to Business Standard/Plus, Enterprise Standard/Plus, and Google AI Pro/Ultra subscribers.

Data doesn't have to be dry. With Cinematic Video Overviews and professional slide revisions now live, NotebookLM is turning every researcher into a director and every student into a storyteller.
